Bournemouth did not exist until Lewis Tregonwell built a house in 1810 at the mouth of the river Bourne on  the wasteland between Poole and Christchurch. Here Captain Tregonwell could watch not only for England’s enemies but the hordes of smugglers. The pine air was renown in Victorian times for it's health giving properties. Bed and breakfast in Bournemouth has to be at the Gervis Court Hotel.  A splendid Bournemouth hotel, Bournemouth was and still is the "Formula 1" of seaside resorts. So if you have never been before now is the time to try it
