A selection of plants and flowers all taken from the prestigious gardens of the Gervis Court Hotel Bournemouth. (please wait while the pictures load) We believe we offer the best valus accommodation in Bournemouth
All pictures were taken digitally by the resident proprietor with his rather fancy Fuji camera.
Gardening by "Capability Edwards" When not taking pictures of course!

Osteospermum:  A perennial evergreen and a typical daisy flower. It is half hardy but needs protection in cold winters. Likes full sun and dry conditions. Looks good in borders, rock gardens or containers

Crocosmia or Montbretia:  A native plant of South Africa. A lovely bright, hardy flower that thrives in full sun and sandy soil. Ideal in groups for a massed effect.

Beard Tongue: A perennial deciduous “foxglove like” plant that cannot tolerate wet winters. Grows best in light shade. A lovely red plant that looks good in a group or by itself

Fuchsia:  These attractive bedding or container plants come in a variety of colours and sizes. Not usually hardy but they seem to survive very well in Bournemouth’s mild climate. They do not like drought or over watering.

Rose:  This beautiful orange coloured rose also has a wonderful scent as well. It is not over-keen on the salt air so doesn’t grow as well as in other parts of the country. It tends to do better in containers.

Red Hot Poker: Not as popular as it once was but nevertheless it is a spectacular plant. It is hardy and likes full sun or light shade. It takes 2 years to flower and needs to be cut back in the autumn.

Lavatera:  A bushy plant with large rose pink flowers. It is also known as Mallow and is extremely easy to grow. It has a long flowering season. It needs some pruning to keep it under control!

Japanese Anemone:  A graceful plant that is hardy and prolific. It likes full sun and flowers in late summer early autumn. Can be used as part of a wild garden

Blue plant:  A plant that remains nameless but does not respond well to window cleaners boots. Luckily this specimen was planted out of danger.
